Quahogs, Mercenaria mercenaria, are an increasingly important commercial fishery in Maine. DEI has conducted research on producing quahogs in the hatchery, measuring recruitment levels, farming methods, and comparing the effects of low pH (ocean acidification) on quahogs to the effects of predation.
