DEI was notified in late June that it will receive grant funds totaling $278,000 over the next two years to continue work initiated several years ago involving commercial-scale grow out of cultured Arctic surfclam seed.  The proposal, “Demonstrating Aquaculture Technologies Designed to Increase the Supply, Quality, and Diversification of Domestic Seafood: Field Experiments with Cultured Arctic Surfclams, Mactromeris polynyma,” was one of five grants from Maine that received funding through the 2017 Saltonstall Kennedy (S-K) Grant competition.  The work will occur in eastern Maine beginning in October 2017, and continue through September 2019.
