Sea Maine featured a number of Downeast Institute’s researchers in a series featuring researchers who are leading scientific advances that are fueling innovation and expansion of Maine’s marine economy.

Associate Director Sara Randall, Associate Director of Technology Transfer Kyle Pepperman, and Hatchery Manager Brea Salter were all interviewed for the series, and featured in the Sea Maine Science video (sea above).

The series was created to show how industry, community, and entreprenuerial leaders are combining forces to diversify and grow Maine’s seafood economy in sustainable ways through an initiative called SEA Maine (Seafood Economic Accelerator).

Sea Maine is an industry-led initiative bringing together leaders in Maine’s commercial fishing, aquaculture, and seafood economy. Funded initially by the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, with match funding from the Maine Technology Institute and FocusMaine, the statewide initiative developed a roadmap and action plan for economic growth, market and workforce development, and greater resiliency in Maine’s seafood economy.
