Annual Shellfish Field Day
Join Us for the 11th Annual Shellfish Field Day
Saturday, August 10, 10:00am to 3:00pm
Every year, DEI opens it’s doors to the entire community holds a community festival called Shellfish Field Day. Join our annual Shellfish Field Day and celebrate with us!
All day: Self-guided tours of our facilities, including hatchery.
All day: Seaweed pressing with Dr. Gayle Kraus, Professor of Marine Ecology at UMM in the Education Center. Supplies included.
11:00am – 3:00pm: Food available for purchase in Conference Room.
10:30am: Celebrity Clam Shucking Showdown. Contestants include State Representative Robert Alley, Dr. Brian Beal, Department of Marine Resources Biotoxin Specialist for Western Maine Ari Leach and reigning champion Marie West of A.C. Inc.
11:30am – 12:15pm: Dedication and unveiling of the new residence hall, Evelyn Hall. Ceremony to take place at Evelyn Hall. Please walk or take free shuttle to Evelyn Hall. Tours of Evelyn Hall available after ceremony.
12:30pm: Clam Flying Contest. Prizes for each age group:
- 10 and younger
- 11-15 years old
- 16- 100 years old
1:00pm – 2:30pm: Boat ride around Black Duck Cove with Captain Robert Alley (weather permitting). Sign-up required, see Welcome Tent to do so.
